Charlie’s Grill

At night, when you drive by Scout Torillo or Scout Fuentebella with your windows open, you will probably hear the most popular hip-hop or R&B songs and wonder where the music is coming from, since you are in the not-so-busy parts of Timog. Then the slow-moving traffic or the cars parked on the streets will cause you to slow down. You would probably then see this well-lit place that stands out from the others in the area. This modern hang-out for young people is called Charlie’s Grill.

Charlie’s Grill opened last October 10, 2010. It is owned by two young women entrepreneurs who have known each other since they were kids. This newly opened bar and restaurant gives off a very chill vibe. Since the place used to be an old house, it makes its customers feel like they are drinking at a friend’s place because of its ambience and very friendly prices. The food prices range from PhP60 to Php400 while the drinks range from Php30 to PhP1,800 (one liter bottle of Johnnie Walker).

They also serve sumptuous Filipino dishes and a few comfort foods that really suit the tastes of their clientele. A few of their Filipino specialties are Crispy Pata, Sizzling Vigan Longganisa, Ginisang Bagnet, Pork Sisig, Kare-Kare, and Fried Chicken. Comfort foods such as Fran’s Buffalo Wings, Charlie’s Fries (spaghetti fries), Charlie’s Nachos, Crispy Noodles with Beef Brisket, Fried Pork Siomai, and Sisig/Adobo/Longganisa Fried Rice. Some of the drinks and dishes are named after the owners’ friends who contributed ideas and/or recipes such as Mimi’s Adios Mother Fucker (one of the strongest drinks available) and Fran’s Buffalo Wings.

Charlie’s is frequented by young professionals who go there to unwind with their friends or simply to attend the event of the night. On Tuesdays, people pay Php199 to drink all the Red Horse beers they can for two hours. Wednesday is much more ‘chill’ because of the acoustic band that plays there every week. Some of the customers even jam with the band. On Thirsty Thursdays, the place is packed with ladies because of Girl Power Day. They give free rum and vodka house mixes to all the ladies for two hours. On weekends, they give away free shots to all the customers. Watch out for Game Night and Steady Sundays where customers can play Rockband or Beer Pong.

Charlie’s Grill is open every night from 6pm until 6am or sometimes until the customers decide to finally call it a night. They also have two function rooms with its own videoke machines. One is good for thirty people and the other one is good for fifty. Both can be used for events or meetings any time of the day as long as you reserve at least a day or a few hours before. Come and visit one of the best places to be in the north and experience great ambience, good service, and awesome food for a fraction of what you usually spend when you go out.
