The Shrek film series was finally over last year, but fans wanted more of our favorite trio (Shrek, Donkey, and Puss). So DreamWorks decided to add another installment for the famous film series, but with a twist. Puss in Boots tells a story about the rise and fall (and rise again) story of Puss, our favorite little fur ball. The film is set sometime before Puss meets Shrek and Donkey in Shrek 2.
In Puss in Boots, fans can get to see how Puss came to don his signature boots. To add new flavors of characters, the movie also introduced a bunch of new faces like the ambitious Humpty Dumpty and the super elusive Kitty Softpaws. Together, the trio set out to find the golden goose way up the castle above the clouds. But before reaching the castle, they need to locate Jack’s magical beans that would enable them, through its stalk, to climb up to the clouds. And that is where the fun and mayhem begins.
The movie offers a lot of freshness; fresh characters, fresh settings, and fresh story. Sadly, it is not that groundbreaking or deep. But what it lacks in depth, it more than makes up in its wit and drama. The movie itself is a cleverly-written comedy that will surely keep the audience laughing until the film’s end. Also, the movie’s glitz and glamour is a step-up, comparing to DreamWorks’ other works.
Puss in Boots is a great movie to watch even if you are not a fan of the Shrek film series. It will entertain you for about 90 minutes of your time. Although it lacks profundity, it more than makes up for it with its amusing humor, effective charm, and dazzling visual sparkle.
It’s a must-watch.
