Samaritan’s Cup

Samaritan's Cup

What could be better than enjoying one’s favorite pastimes, getting some good exercise, making new friendships, and helping the less fortunate in the process? That is exactly what a group of E.S.A. students had in mind, with the last objective being foremost in their minds.

Late last a year, a group of students consisting of Edward Topacio, Tom Javier, Carla Bondoc and Zeke Rebueno conceptualized and ran a friendly basketball competition, which was opened up to current students, alumni, and others with the aim of supporting a charitable institution.

The tournament, appropriately dubbed “Samaritan’s Cup”, was held over four days,  Nov 18-21 at Donya Juana Multi-purpose Hall in Pasig City.

A total of eight teams competed for the various prizes up for grabs and bragging rights.  In the end, all had fun and were able to brag that they were able to help a good cause.

The beneficiary of the charitable project was Bahay Kanlungan, a home for the elderly in Antipolo.  As such all the teams were able to help bring , even if indirectly. smiles to some elderly citizens.

The Samaritan’s Cup was done to fulfill the key requirement of one of the students classes in the Entrepreneurs School of Asia’s Experiential Learning (EXL) series. As part of their Exl 5 – Social Entrepreneurship Experience 1 class, students are required to conceptualize and implement a project to benefit an advocacy close to their own hearts.
